off to NJ today for a full day of John's friends and Family

Hello. Go Andy! This is from Indian Wells 09.

I'm listening to Jazz Singers station. jazz.FM91 High Standards (itunes) is the tag line or name of the station. So great to hear random singers, every song is different, great Jazz musicians. I was listening to a different station yesterday and the DJ/News guy was so bad, young and inexperienced - I winced during his delivery of news and I couldn't even tell you what he said He was in over his head but at the same time it was sweet. I hope He got a pat on the back and some good advice and not fired.

I made a three box wood painting for the Washington St Gallery annual Juried Show. It was the last submission that I've made. It should be coming up on the calendar, I think it is a fall show actually. Rejection from that annoying strict ruled show is just that annoying. Back to my point I made this piece and part of me wants to break it up and throw it out. There's also a side that thinks I should keep it. I just don't want to store it.

I've committed to a great four month + temporary sublet starting November 1st. What luck.

in the light of day

Hello. So I am stating to take down everything that is not relevant to my current work or anything that could be a distraction which is just about everything and looking at my new work. The verdict is out. I wish....

This is another painting by that artist Michael Raedecher???

Just finished playing some tennis. I didn't do badly but need so much work. The form is what I want to improve on. That is one aspect of my game that suffers from not working out with a pro for a long while.

So the studio if getting into some order. It always looks bad before it transitions into something workable. I am cleaning the decks like never before. Really trying to part with things that do not serve me. I am bringing an old army surplus backpack to the thrift store. I will never use it again and I have stored it for years without ever using it. Someone else may fall in love with it and really get some use out of it. So many other little things that I am also purging it feels great.

IN THE CITY - SMOOTH RIDE

Hello. So I drove a van full of paintings back from the country. Planned to take photos of the journey more than I did anyway. You will have to visit my site for some photos as I did not get them on my laptop. There is a lot to do, full time and I am not a machine. I wish I were. Check out www.markperry.org I've redone my homepage and I like its brassy, bold approach.

There has been a Praying Mantis couple (well I guess not for long) hanging around the Ivy near the door. They can hang out all they want as long as they don't fly in my face. The way they turn their heads on an axis looking intently.

Wow look what I found. I blogged about UTADA a while back after hearing her interviewed on the radio and fell head over heels. The voice is amazing, she is very smart and a truely gifted artist. s.u.b.l.i.m.e.

It is great to think about all the work done in the country, now in the city. And I love my site. I want everyone to see it. Although that is a scary thought isn't it. I have no image to upload. Of course I can dig something up.

busy windy sunny day

Hello. These are three views of my EH studio as of late last night. Each of the large panels are the "five work stations" panels that I have been blogging about, endlessly. I am bringing the large painting on the left to the city today. I am probably insane as I have so much work and no space and then a one week sublet starting on the 21st. Shit. I have to do it just like I have to change this Latin radio station that I am listening to. I am crazy busy today and I stayed up till almost 3:30 this morning updating my homepage. I am very pleased though and it needed to be done.

Later.

Hello. Gene Tierney, read on.

Last night was the reception for The High Line Open studios 09 Tour and it was a great night. www.highlineopenstudios09.org I met Kevin O'Hanlon the guy who took over and made the tour happen. What a great committed no nonsense kind of guy. He put together a very nice group show. James Kennedy had a beautiful horizontal piece, see bottom left. http://jameskennedyonline.com/home.html , his new site, and he is featured in The Independent an East Hampton paper with an image of his show with Bob Bachler www.bobachler.com at Surface Library opening this Friday October 16, 2009

The image on the top left is my painting installed next to the artist Ultra Violet. UV's piece is very contravasercial (as my favorite actor from Mad TV, Bobby Lee once said, in character as a stupid MTV chick.) and provocative making a statement about violence against women with guns and the male genitalia. There was some text which I am embarrassed to say I glazed over. I will look into this provocative artist sometime soon I just feel overwhelmed with preparations right now. I am in the country, drove out with a friends van, packing up a shit load of paintings, loading up and driving back to the city tomorrow to unload more work than can possibly fit in my apartment but I will deal with that tomorrow.

More importantly, I re-connected with two old friends today, Mike and David a couple now living in the UK. They informed me that they were not listed on the "collections" page of my site. What an oversight, they bought a few paintings from me back around 2001 when I had a huge studio sale. They are visiting NY and going to two weddings this weekend. two couple of the male gender in Conn. One of the grooms is the nephew of Gene Tierney the Hollywood screen goddess of "Laura" fame. My mother will be very moved. I new that long ago but for some reason it really excited me hearing it again. She was amazing.

So tonight I will continue wrapping up my work hit the hay and wake up early and start all over a gain. There's a song in there somewhere. OK not a great song but a song.

back in the city

Hello. This painting is the twin to the one in the previous post. They make me very happy and we all know that is not an easy task. :)

So tonight I am going to a one night reception and it was kind of sudden but I should have been able to get myself together and send a mailing but I did not. I think there is a part of me that feels I am all over the place as in saturated and ask to much a a small group of people. And what have I done? I've left myself standing alone with poor John who is probably going to be more upset about my blunder than I am. I am in work mode and only want to be in the studio which is really transforming for fall. Not by itself mind you. I have FIVE work stations. Now in the city trying to find a sublet for the apartment. What a segue. Anyway. I am borrowing a van driving to EH loading up with art and bringing it all back here for my tour which is next Thursday - Sunday. I have to be prepared in the event someone is shopping....so that means the big schlep.

So I am back in the city and preparing my studio for the High Line Open studio Tour next weekend and then a week long sublet soon after that. Just went to the Police Precinct to be finger printed for my Liquor License. That was fun. Actually it was easy and the cop that assisted me could not have been nicer. Well He could have offered me a cup of coffee but all in all a easy encounter. Not that I was expecting to be harassed or anything. I was actually expecting to be told to go to the Upper East Side to have it done so I was very happy indeed.

The room that it was done in had most wanted pictures all over the place. Boy that is not the kind of publicity one wants. It was pretty scary I must say. These guys do not look happy or sweet.

Approaching The Harbor

Hello. www.highlineopenstudios09.org Calling all Chelsea artists with studios.

This image is of the installation of the High Line Open Studio Preview Reception at the Rogue Space this Tuesday October 6th I think it is from 6 - 9
https://www.chelseagalleryspace.com/

I am very excited as the painting on the right is mine. It is new for me and I love it but it is a little scary because there is always the possibility that I am crazy and it is shit. I am just kidding, a little. I love the painting and stand behind it totally. I'd like to see someone else try to make it. How's that.

By the way, I was about to not have a painting in this one day event which is a kick-off for the Studio Tour as I am not in the city and it would have been difficult. I am not lazy mind you but it would not have happened without the help and push of Randi Goldsmith and John. They both made he see that is was worth it and convinced me to let someone help me (meaning Randi) who took the painting back to the city on the Jitney and delivered it for me. Saying that she was honored to do it. Have you ever heard of such generosity? She would no doubt say that it was nothing but it was not nothing it was a beautiful gesture and I was totally touched by this.

http://site.mediasunrise.com/About_Media_Sunrise.html This is Randi Goldsmith's site, she happens to be making my life and the life of John McGovern go a little smoother in the PR department. http://gallery.me.com/roguestudios#100207&bgcolor=black&view=grid
Randi was responsible for getting me on the page. WARNING. Do not click on the close-up image I look pretty old and scary. The full figure shot is much more friendly and better lighting thank you very much.
